John's Birthday at Krazy Dragon

John is well loved at the Krazy Dragon. This became evident at his birthday party today. Apart from the fact everyone had too much to drink (including me, hic), this was a great night. There were 8 coyote dancers from The Dave who supplemented the large numbers of boys from Krazy. They performed on the stage and on the bar. Then there was a great special show - one of the best of its kind I have seen for a long time. For nibbles (apart from the boys) there was a roast pig outside.

The highlight of the evening was the cutting of the cake where John got covered with silly string and it all got very messy. I had a wonderful time and can't wait til John's next birthday. The next special event at the Dragon is their Glow Night on the 15th and if this is anything like the previous ones it will be very good indeed.

Tom's Birthday at Oud's

Tom is a good friend of ours and it was quite a surprise when he announced that it was his birthday. We asked why he didn't tell us in advance and he told us it was to be a quiet affair. That it was! A mere half a dozen bunches of balloons put up and a bottle of whisky for the boys, and that was the party. There was the obligatory necklace of money, but hey! That's the tradition!

But then thinking about it, what more does one need? Some good friends, a nice drink, a small present and that's a good birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOM!

MISS SUNEE PLAZA AND THE SPI 1st BIRTHDAY

Well that was a year and some! There has been so much going on during it, that I wouldn't know where to begin. From tiny beginnings SPI has grown to a full soi entity. I did take a look through our review archive and remembered many of the great highs we've had during the year. At the top certainly would be the "White" party in November - the biggest event ever held in Sunee Plaza.

The birthday itself was a quiet affair. Some bars put up balloons, and there were some offers around such as at Krazy Dragon and Corner Bar. Mike at La Cage had a "Eurovision Song Contest Night". But the big event was the Miss Sunee Plaza competition. 27 hopefuls lined up adorned in their finery. It was amazing to think every one of them was a boy in drag. The two announcers, Yoyo from Si Saket and Mama Noi of Wild West Boys fame, gave a long and detailed commentary. The only shame was that is was 99% in Thai, and this was not to the liking of the farangs who were watching, many of whom left. However those who stayed were given a treat of glamorous dames, interspersed with some good acts. The Alangkarn Theatre was in the soi and they performed at Mike's Bar La Cage, Krazy Dragon and outside Corner Bar before appearing on the stage. The cast from the Wonderland show also put on three numbers and these were much appreciated.

The "girls" themselves all paraded to start, before an interlude and then the winners of the Miss Redgy's Place, Miss Wan's Bar and Miss Euroboys were announced. There was the Miss Funny who after an enthusiastic "applaud-off" went to Ole from Nice Boys. The prize here was 1000B donated by Sexy Body Underwear at Tukcom. Finally there was the Miss Popular Competition with a prize of 3000B donated by iCandyevents.co.uk. It was close as the "roses" were bought and handed in, and eventually came down to two contestants. Handfuls of flowers were presented by their main adorers, and in the end, the winner was Ning from Corner Bar.

The main competition then had the girls parade once more and they were all scored. The first 27 girls were reduced to 10 and they all had to put on an act they had prepared. These were marked and we got down to the final four. The judges could then ask one girl one question and they were marked on their answer. Then it was time for the final places. In third with a prize of 2000B donated by Orchid Guesthouse in Jomtien came Surachi Thongkoed from a Beauty Salon. In second with a prize of 3000B donated by Happy Boys Bar in Soi Yensabai was Chaiyawat Sabunna from Frankly Cabaret, but in first place with a prize of 5000B donated by Pattaya Hotmale.com was Weerd Prasungsuck Namefour from the Beauty Salon. Well done to all. The cups and sashes and crown were all put on and the ladies paraded for photos. I'd like to say thanks to Gun from Euroboys who did all the hard work in putting this event together. All credit goes to him. Thanks Gun and well done SPI for being one year old!

Grand Opening Party at Wonderland

What can I say? I used most of the superlatives on the opening night of Sunee's Showbar. However having seen the show tonight, I realise how far they've come. The new show is better by far. The dances are tighter, the choreography is spot on and the costumes are really professional. It's come a long way in just 6 weeks. If you saw the show in the early days, you want to see it now. They have improved the stage too. Made it bigger and with curtains behind it's now a real stage. And there is the new lighting which enables us to get great videos.

For me the opening party was a hit. The buffet was nice, the gogo boys plentiful and sexy, nut the show was the star and always will be while Aod is in charge.

Mei's Birthday at Memories Music Bar

After a wait of just over a week (the original party being postponed because of the curfew), Mei finally to to celebrate his birthday with his friend Michael. They held it a Memories and the bar did them proud. There was a nice buffet, some balloons (blown up by the indefatigueable Oun), and even a dance show by Boy. We missed the show, but caught the cutting of the cake. Mei was rather overwhelmed by the whole affair and all his many friend who gathered.

I wish I could say more often "Happy Birthday to Mei"!

For the past 4 weeks, Ya, the owner, has been supervising the renovations in the bar that was formerly Sundance. Included among the renovations are: a new bar with seating, updates to the lighting, fresh paint, and new bathroom.

M is a well known face around Sunee Plaza and has worked in many of the bars. Well tonight it was his birthday (actually it is tomorrow, but the party was today as the bars are closed tomorrow). Mic My put on a nice party for him. There was a roast pig and some nice prepared fruit to eat on. The boys were in good form and the atmosphere was certainly festive.

New look at Wonderland

We announced before that Wonderland was doing two shows nightly. Well they have improved them and put in new dancers and new songs. They are now shinier and sparklier than before. It's a good piece of entertainment and well worth seeing. Add to that they now have more than a dozen cute boys to keep you company while you're waiting for the shows and it's a good place to visit. Wonderland opens at 8 pm and has its shows at 10 pm and 12 pm. Take a look here!

“Oh what a week”

This has been one week to remember. Why; because for two nights I had a stream of phone calls from willing boys wanting to come to my room for almost no money. We had a curfew. It was the first one since 1993. And if I didn’t watch the TV, or listen to the news, that would be the only thing that would be remarkable for me about this week.

In Pattaya, there have been no problems at all. Everyone coming into and leaving the airport has come and gone as they should. The sun has shone almost all week (if anything we have had better weather than normal). The beaches were lovely and the massage boys and ice cream sellers are working hard. The bars have had a good time; many reporting business equal to or better than normal. One party was postponed because of the curfew, but apart from that, it’s been business as usual. It’s like the airport closure in 2008. One company I know of offered to fly their Executive home in a private jet to America if he was in danger. They were so worried about his safety from all they were hearing in the press. His reply was that the only danger was from sunburn – he was sitting on the beach drinking Piña Coladas and privately hoped the airport stayed closed a long time!

The two days of curfew have been interesting. The first one was so suddenly announced that no one had any time to prepare. In some cases drinks were literally taken off tables and check bins were ignored. A few phone calls later and here and there a boy went to a room to keep a farang company on the long evening. The second night was better prepared. Some of the gogos opened at 6 pm and the bars generally at 5. By 9, people were scurrying home, again frequently with a pre-arranged rendezvous for the evening. By the third night, just as suddenly as it started, it was all over.

Life here trucked on almost as if nothing unusual was happening. All the stores stayed open in the non-curfew hours. The banks closed, but few need to go inside a bank. Cash machines and exchange offices were all open. It was annoying that the 7/11s closed and the late night supplies were denied, but hey! The Pattaya branch of Paradise sauntered on very nicely indeed thanks.

But of course there were problems in Thailand. To ignore them would be superficial and offensive. And this editorial did not set out to be either. The press reported “The Land of Smiles has become the Land of Tears”. Bangkok has had its heart ripped out. People died and many buildings now lay in charred ruins. After 6 weeks of (relatively) peaceful rallies, the troops went in and cleared the site. The fires and mayhem that resulted have been well documented. It’s not our place to comment on the rights and wrongs of the events; nor to pass any editorial on this, but it did happen. Forums asked “Has Thailand’s image been tarnished forever?” It has certainly been hurt. Will it recover? I’ll end with one story. A friend of mine went to Bangkok Saturday. His taxi took a wrong turn and he found himself going down by the Lumphini Stadium. All over the place there were gangs of people and fire trucks. But these people were not setting fires and looting, they were cleaning. Some had taken the day off work, many were locals, but not by any means all. They had Dettol and scrubbing brushes and brooms and were cleaning. And they had smiles. They cheerfully waved my friend through in his taxi, shouting out “Farang Taxi” and the waving and smiling at him. Has the reputation been harmed? Yes. Will it take time to recover? Yes. Is Thailand still the “Land of Smiles”? YOU BET!

UPDATE ON THAILAND 23/05/10

Life appears to have returned to normal for the time being in Pattaya at least. The curfew is over and all the bars and gogos were open again last night. All the shops, ATMs and change bureaus were open yesterday and the Banks say they will be open tomorrow (Monday). There are no problems getting from the airport to Pattaya, and the taxis in the area are back asking “Taxi Bangkok?”

We have today heard that the curfew will be extended in Bangkok and some other provinces for at least one more day, and then on a “day-to-day” basis. But the news specifically says it’s relaxed in Pattaya.

It’s still 35 degrees here and the boys are waiting. The beach is cosy and if anything crowded as the residents from Bangkok take shelter here. There are plenty of rooms to be had in the hotels, although they are not totally empty and screaming for customers. Some good deals are still available. Most businesses are reporting that despite their worst fears, this month won’t be as bad as they thought it was going to be. The tunnel has light at the end of it.

Obviously we have to take things on a “one day at a time” basis, but just for today, it’s great. If you were booked and have doubts, come. If you are thinking of booking, come. We miss you.

UPDATE ON THAILAND 21/05/10 Late edition

We heard just after 8 pm, that the curfew had been lifted IN PATTAYA. This does not apply to other cities in Chon Buri Province or other Provinces. It is due to several bar owners, petitioning the Mayor and his agreeing to the relaxing of the curfew. The bars in Sunee rallied and many will stay open tonight to their normal closing time. As far as we know (and we must stress this is not 100% confirmed) there will be no curfew tomorrow (Saturday) or in the future. It is expected all other businesses will remain open where they can rally the staff. The local 7/11s and Family Marts were open; we are not sure about the larger stores such as Big C.

If things change we will mail round again. However for now, it’s business as usual. The planned party for the 30th will go ahead to schedule.

It would appear Pattaya is returning to normal and from tomorrow normal service will be resumed in Paradise.

UPDATE ON THAILAND 21/05/10

In order to quell any rumours that are going round, we can absolutely confirm from personal observance.
This morning the following were open:
* Big C South
* Friendship
* Tukcom
* All the small shops we could see
* Bank ATMs
* Bank exchange windows
* The immigration office at Jomtien
* The banks themselves were NOT open and said they wouldn’t be open until Monday
* A passenger who arrived late at the airport had no problem coming down to Pattaya in a taxi. No challenges were made.
* Last night Sunee Plaza was largely open until 9 pm. Most bars were open from 6 pm. Tonight we have heard that most bars will be open from 5 pm to 9 pm. This will include many of the gogo bars.
The advice seems to be come early, drink, eat and play to your heart’s content until 9 pm. Then find a good book or a good boy to settle down with and have fun. We’re not going anywhere without you!

UPDATE ON THAILAND 20/05/10

Up until a few days ago, we were carrying a “travel advisory” that said it was "business as usual” in Pattaya. I am sure you heard yesterday the troops stormed the red shirt encampment in Bangkok and ended the siege.

Yesterday evening at 21.00 the police came round and closed all the bars. There was a curfew imposed and we had not heard about it. Today we heard the curfew has been extended for a further 3 days (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) from 9 pm to 5 am.

We have no knowledge of any possible extension to this, or what will happen after these three days. However, that apart, the bars are all open from 6 pm to 9 pm. DON’T LET THIS PUT YOU OFF! The boys are still here. They still want to meet you and entertain you. In fact with the bars closing at 9 pm they are more keen than ever! They still need money and it's not long until the end of the month when rents are due.

There has been no trouble in Pattaya that we have heard of. Reports of explosions at Big C, or the Town Hall appear to be false rumours.

Paradise is here, it just closes at 9 pm for the time being. As soon as there are any real problems here we will let you know.

FROM A HOLE TO AN ENLARGEMENT

In a bizarre sort of "sex change", Mike's Bar La Cage has turned it's hole into a full fledged enlargement. Visitors after Songkran would have seen the wall between La Cage and White Night mysteriously removed. This new "hole" grew and grew, until it became obvious that something was going on. With a deal of redecoration, a new bar top, and the repositioning of the furniture, an enlargement to La Cage has been born. The trend for bars to close, or take long "low season" holidays has been bucked at La Cage as the bar is now twice the size.

There is a performance area for party days, and a new sound system will shortly go in. This apart, (and a little titivating) the works are complete. The official unveiling will be at Mike's Birthday party on June the 22nd, but for now you can read in the reading room, snuggle in the snug, or just be a gentleman in the gentleman's club. You are apart from the rest of the bar, while still being a part of it. You can sit and look out on the world through the doors, while enjoying the air-conditioning inside.

It's cosy, comfy and will be an asset to the area. "Nice to see you bigger, Mike!"

"A" has been working at Happy Bar for several months and had his 23rd birthday tonight. In order to make something special of it they had a party for him. It was a nice affair. The usual balloons, a good buffet, but it was the boys inside that made the night. Happy Bar is always a pleasure to go in and tonight they were making customers feel extra special. A was the perfect host and the boys all looked after the many customers. Thanks to their manager Wat, and all the boys for making the night a special one. And a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to A!!!!

1st Anniversary Party at Mic My Bar

It seems hard to believe that just over a year ago, Mic My was a dark and seldom visited beer bar in Soi V.C. Then a year ago today Noi opened his sparkly new gogo bar. Well it's still sparkly, but now it's a year old!

To celebrate he had a party and a good one it was too. There was a nice buffet of pig, rice and exotic fruits. Inside there was a good show, with some interesting new acts. We were also entertained by Noi's gogo boys. Great night and all those who went (and there were many) seemed to enjoy it too!

Election fever hits Mike's Bar La Cage

In a surprise result, the votes cast in the South Pattaya consistency were announced tonight. Mike's Bar La Cage was the scene of the hustings (or was it the hustling). The electoral role was checked and everyone was passed. No ballot papers had been spoiled, only the bar staff. The returning Officer (he keeps coming back again) announced the following result:
Ball (Hard Labour) 1 vote
Tom (Conceivable) 9 votes
O (Liberal Dominant) 15 votes
Tawan (Respect me please) 2 votes
Joy (Ukip, I'll kip) 6 votes
Pookie (Scottish National Party, party, party) 2 votes
Mike declared O the winner with a huge majority. Several boys lost their deposits. It was a fun evening and if this result is followed in the UK, several parties will be in for a huge shock. However Mike is happy with his result - the predicted Hung Parliament!

Obviously we in Amsterdam have no way of checking these reviews, so please accept them as personal opinions of the diners who went.

Pagoda - Jomtien

Last night it was to Jomtien for our contributor. His report about the Pagoda follows.

"The Pagoda restaurant in Jomtien Complex is always a pleasure. Still under the (part time) eye of Helmut, the entire experience is pretty near perfect. Recently a small group of us had a very enjoyable evening. From the moment Helmut greeted us through to the last minute when he bid us all a heartfelt thank you and goodbye, we felt comfortably in professional hands. The staff were personable, efficient, understanding and caring. Not once do I recollect a language problem or misunderstanding, remarkable considering there were a number of different nationalities in our group. They sailed through the service, always smiling and seemingly carefree. Somewhat cruelly we swapped a soup spoon for a fish knife, as a little test. Just prior to the starters being served, it was spotted and quietly rectified. The dishes that could be singled out as stunning included Smoked Duck with Avacado salad, Large Prawns grilled wrapped in Bacon, Cordon Bleu, Grilled Salmon, Pepper Steak and of the deserts the Hot Plums with ice cream was outstanding.

It must have been nearly two years since my last visit to the Pagoda. My mistake."

Gun's Birthday at Euroboys

"Oh what a night". The first big party of the season (what season I hear you say?) On the 5th, Gun held a humungeous party at Euroboys. They certainly pulled out all the stops for this one. It worked out well that it coincided with the start of a month's holiday for Eden bar and a short holiday for Song Kwae, so the places on either side were empty. As a result Euroboys could expand into a "triple"unit. And they certainly needed the space. We were met by a radiant Gun, who welcomed everybody. For a buffet we were treated to no less than 25 spit roasted chickens which made a really nice change from the obligatory pig. There was plenty of exotic fruit to go round too.

The live music was all Thai and quite a lot karaoke style. This had the whole soi dancing along at times (see the pictures below). For shows, we were treated to a special show from the Euroboys boys, a fire twirling act, some formation dancing (again from Euroboys) and a very energetic freestyle performance from Peet and Mon. At midnight there was a yummy Swenson's Ice Cream cake and a short "thank you" speech. All too soon it was over and the boys waved goodbye and stacked everything into an over-stuffed Euroboys. I'm glad I don't have to do the sorting out tomorrow.

It was a really nice night, loads of people came to wish Gun well and everyone had fun. Thanks Gun and Euroboys for a really great time.

Nicky's Birthday at Memories

The 4th saw the re-start of some birthday parties. April closed with a bang and May looks like starting off where April left out. Nicky had his birthday at Memories. His bf Kevin organised the party and there were some balloons and nice food. Memories alawys make a good spread when they have a party there.

Lots of people visited to welsome the birthday boy into his second quarter century! Good luck to you Nicky! (and before you ask, this isn't Nicky of Nicky's Gay Pattaya - it's Kevin's Nicky!!!)

Wan's Place comes back to Sunee

Wan's Place is a name that was well known and well loved by many customers. When it closed and was taken over by a new bar, many people were sad. However as widely reported last week, today (4th) Wan opened his new bar - WAN'S PLACE in the former Place 2 B.

It's good to have one of the instututions of Sunee back open and we are sure Wan will make as good a job of the new bar as he did of the old. Welcome back Wan and Good Luck.

On Thursday 6th May, the UK is having a General Election. Out of respect for this, and to give any British in Pattaya a chance to register their opinions, Mike's Bar La Cage has opened it's booth. You can choose from any of the major parties and register a vote. Just drop in and see. Then on the 6th, the swing-o-meter will measure the angle of the dangle and Mike himself is hoping for a well-hung parliament. Will the Pattayan's vote reflect the British general opinion? Go along at midnight on the 6th for the official count. The boys will stand as hustlers for their respective party and you can choose who you'd like to support!

Duck's Birthday at C.U. Bar

OK, we made it! 6 parties in 6 days and we didn't miss one! So on the 30th, Duck celebrated his 49th birthday (again?) He did it in style at C.U. bar and the boys all had fun. They decorated the place with the obligatory balloons and there was a nice buffet. The Croatian kebabs and salad were supplemented by Texas Chicken fingers, kindly donated by the boys at Corner Bar.

At midnight, there was a rather interesting rendition of "Happy Birthday" and instead of a cake, we all popped the balloons! Obviously a Croatian custom! Anyway the party went on late into the night and a great time was had by all.

Sunee Plaza has certainly brought some fun times to the end of what otherwise would have been a very quiet month. Here's to May!

Leigh's Birthday at Memories Music Bar

In Sunee this week we have 6 parties on 6 consecutive days. That's a good sign! On the 28th was number 4. Leigh from Memories Music Bar celebrated his 50th Birthday. There have been different styles - the ultra quiet (no balloons, virtually a secret) to the huge fanfare type (balloons and all the trimmings), this one definitely fitted into the latter category. Leigh wanted quiet, he didn't give out any major advance notice, but the team at Memories wanted otherwise. So with two days to go an invite was designed, the balloons were bought, the buffet planned and the party wheels were put into motion.

The bar was decorated in the style we have come to expect from MMB. The friends and work colleagues of Leigh were all invited and all turned up. There was a yumalicious buffet of laab moo, eggs, rice and lots of other party type food. Although there was no special entertainment, the good chat from friends was all we needed.

We wish Leigh well for the next 50 years (!)

Gary (L.F.C.)'s birthday at Uniform

OK, here's the quiz for today. What does L.F.C. stand for? There were many suggestions last night, with the "L" being attributed either "Large" or "Lazy" to most of them. The censors on the site stopped us printing what the "F" and the "C" had suggested, but you can guess. Anyway, whatever it is, Gary has the same three letters tattooed on the back of his head.

He's a really nice chap, as friendly as "F" and he had a birthday today (27th). He decided to celebrate at Uniform so the boys went to town to make him feel welcome. Apparently the colours, red and white, were significant, so that was the theme for the balloons and the boys uniforms.

A great buffet of sandwiches, pork pies and sausage rolls fed the team and Gary and his friends had a lot of fun. Lots of drinking, good company and a real fun evening at Uniform followed as is always the case when they put on a party there. Happy Birthday Gary - LFC!

Ray & Chian's anniversary

In a surprise party on the 26th, Ray and Chian, a well known couple around Sunee, told everyone they had been together for a year. This notable anniversary was celelbrated at Euroboys by opening a bottle and treating all the boys to a drink. It's amazing what the boys will do in EB when you open a bottle! If you haven't tried it, you should!

Ray and Chian went on around the Plaza to different places to continue sharing their good times.

Tik's Birthday at Sundance

Some birthdays are really big affairs, and some really quiet. Usually it's the Thai ones that are big. However tonight was an exception. Our correspondent was having a quiet drink at a bar, when a boy came along and took the doorboy to "his friend's birthday party". Thinking he had missed something the correspondent went to find the party and there was no sign.

Tik, the cashier from Sundance is amazingly shy and when his birthday came up he decided to celebrate VERY quietly. No balloons, just a buffet and cake. The sandwiches were delicious we were told, however by the time the camera got to Sundance, the cake was reduced to a mere morsel. Everyone said it was lovely and Tik himself was having a grand time.

Nice party for those who knew, but possibly one of the best kept secrets tonight in Sunee!

St George's Day Party at La Cage

St George's Day at Mike's Bar La Cage is now a bit of a Pattaya institution. Well, at least he should be locked up for crimes against the eardrums!. The evening started well enough with an extended special Happy Hour all the way through to midnight and a fine "Ploughman's" Cheddar cheese supper as well, courtesy of a lovely generous customer from Lancashire. Then the singing started and the usually reserved regulars turned ugly! The Vera Lynn Songbook was murdered and the La Cage version of The Last Night of the Proms was loud, very loud. Interestingly enough, quite a number of jolly foreigners, Yanks and Germans, no less, actually seemed to enjoy it and stayed to the end. An improvement on last year!

As young Mr. Grace would say "You've all done very well!"

Magic comes to Sunee at Wonderland

I believe in magic. At least it was firmly at work in Sunee Plaza tonight. At 7 pm a quick visit to Wonderland met with desperation. Having issued hundreds of flyers announcing that the grand opening night was to be the 9th, the bar would not open. There were just too many problems. No air conditioning, water coming through the ceiling, no boys, worst of all no show ... the list went on. Poor Aod, we wept for him. At 8.30, the story was a little different. The wands had been waved a little and spells were being woven. OK. Only 4 boys were on stage for the lookers, and there was only one looker, but it was a start. You could feel the tension in the air. The opening night nerves. The place had been built, but would they come? At 11.00, there was little doubt. The tension had been replaced with a sparkle, a tingle and the magic was firmly in control. By 11.30 the place was packed. The wizardry had exploded to a Hogwart's worth and everyone was expectant.

The air conditioning was working very well and keeping everyone cool. There were almost a dozen boys on the stage as eye-candy, and they were dancing to the music. Would the show arrive - you bet it would! Finally the main event. Star wars music chimed up bringing tingles to the spine and one could almost say moistness to the underwear. After almost two years of no show, Sunee Plaza can boast it now has a show bar. The performers were good - very good. They were camp, funny, erotic and certainly knew their numbers. The dances were slick and the changes were (almost) perfect. Considering they hadn't had a rehearsal in the place it was as close to perfect as you could want. The ladyboys and the boys were as good as any around and the show will be a hit!

To cap it all, there was one last sprinkle of fairy dust to come. As a real treat, and in a gesture that only the new spirit of cooperation Sunee Plaza is enjoying, Euroboys up the road closed when the show started. Their boys came down to watch the extravaganza and as a way of saying thank you, joined in afterwards on stage for a real burst of eye candy. The combined boys from both bars ended the evening with a real piece of fun.

Welcome to Sunee, Wonderland, you are good and will become great. There's only one final question, where was Alice????

Promo shoot for Wonderland

It was late at night when around a dozen people converged on the old Topman bar. The drinkers at Forest watched with a little curiosity as they all trooped inside and put the lights on. Unsure as to what was going on, the spectators watched and murmered to themselves. Soon however glamorous ladyboys and fit boy dancers began to appear from the door to pose in front of the new WONDERLAND sign.

Yes this was a promo shoot for the new show, and our reporter was there to get another scoop for SPI. The cast lined up and posed while the press snapped away, determined to make the most of a great opportunity. The show looks spectacular. The performers are from Alcazar and they will be bringing this top class show to Sunee Plaza. If the promo is anything to go by, we're all in for a treat.

The bar is scheduled to have a "soft" opening next week with a grand opening party in about 2 week's time. Watch this space for details of the premier show.

A new event at Mike's Bar La Cage

For something completely different on Saturday night (3rd), the punters in Bar La Cage enjoyed a fine display of lithe muscle on 16 pairs of super long legs being displayed from skimpy shorts. Handsome fresh faces dripping with sweat. Panting and gasping for breath, the cute young lads went at it with all their might at 34 strokes per minute. Yes, it was the annual Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, live on La Cage's new 42 inches. The assembled audience was heavily in favour of a Cambridge win and only Mike, the Guv'nor, was shouting for Oxford, having lived there for a short period of his dubious youth. Sadly it was disappointment for Mike as Cambridge developed an early lead which Oxford could not catch up.

Started in 1829, and only cancelled because of war, the Boat Race is the epitome of fine English tradition. This tradition has now reached Pattaya and will feature in the La Cage diary every year, from now on.

3rd Anniversary Party at Mike's Bar La Cage

Another year at La Cage, making it three in a row for Mike, Joe and the team. It hardly seems possible! My, how times flies when you're enjoying yourself! Our favourite singing Duo, Rose and Andre put on a terrific performance including many new songs as well as the much loved oldies. A really tasty spit roast pig and mixed buffet was on offer and included the new Thai savory specialty, cold French Fries!

The whole night was a great success, and as usual for a La Cage party, it was standing room only at times. A nice problem to have, but a problem all the same. Mike is working on it, so watch this SPACE.

Happy April Fool's Day - enjoy the "scoop"

In a major scoop for SPI, we have arranged for the World Famous Mass Naked Photographer - Spence Tunic - to come to Sunee Plaza. His installations are famous all over the world. We'd like to quote from one participant in Amsterdam, where we met Spence.

"I was a participant in Dream Amsterdam. Wow! I am still recovering from it all. Could only sleep for 4 hours afterwards, I was so energized from the experience.

I guess most have seen the photos now, so I will just say having to stand on a chair, on the 4th floor of a parking garage, leaning back with my hands on the edge of the ceiling was ...challenging. I was so scared that somebody was going to fall, but there were no mishaps that i heard of.

Since I am a man, I did the petrol pump poses after the garage onramp. In a way, it was more of a challenge for me, since it was clear that there were onlookers who could watch (standing in the parking structure itself, you could only see the onlookers from a far distance).

My whole life I have been ashamed of my body, and don't even like to walk around my house naked. So doing this has really extended my personal boundaries. If I never do anything remotely similar to this again, nobody can ever take this experience away from me.

What I also noticed was that after the first few seconds of being naked, it was just normal to stand and chat with your neighbor without being self-conscious. That was a revelation to me.

Two parties to end March

The 31st saw the start of two busy days for our reporter - 4 parties in this short space of time. It started with Forest House celebrating its 12th anniversary party. To quote the email we received; "We are not quite sure how old the bar really is. I came to live here in Dec 1997 and the bar was up & running then, but opinions suggest that it was at least 3 years old then, but who really cares just come along and join in the fun."

Anyways, it was a nice event. There was a good karaoke, a nice buffet, a magician and a show. What more could one want from a party?

Then over the other end of the soi, Don Plaza, Don Club and Wunderbar gave a party for their boys. It was an "end of season" party and the lads deserved it. There was all the usual music from a Thai group we have heard before and the boys up and down the soi were joining in and dancing. The farangs there seemed to have a good time, or at least enjoyed watching their boys have fun!

Great evening both and thanks for giving us a good night.

Corner Bar brightens up!

Sparing no expense, the boys at Corner Bar have switched over to fluorescent lights. They have replaced all (over 40) the old incandescent bulbs for the energy saving tubes. No, they haven't repainted the bar, it's just a whole lot brighter and a lot cheaper to run. Maybe Earth hour helped!

Nui's Birthday at Good Boys

Nui has been in Sunee plaza for a long time and today (29th) was his birthday. He celebrated in grand style at his nightclub - Goodboys - and gave us all a good evening. Apart from plenty of balloons to mark the event, there was a grand buffet with TWO roast pigs. The boys were on good form and gave us all a good time.

There were some very sexy coyote dancers in black briefs and cowboy hats, and an interesting karaoke to keep us entertained in between.

It was a fun evening and I hope Nui enjoyed it as much as we did. Thanks for this Good Boys!

Earth Hour 2010

Sunee Plaza . info itself does not support or promote any causes, but Earth Hour 2010 (earthhour.org) caught the eye of many of the bars in the area, and we were happy to spread the word. The trend in Sunee was started by Mike's Bar La Cage last year, but this is a world-wide effort. On 27th March at 8.30 pm wherever you were in the world, it was suggested you turned off all the lights to make a statement about climate change. Major buildings such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Pyramids and Sphynx, and the Eiffel Tower all joined in with people in 120 countries and Sunee did its bit.

In the Plaza, 11 bars and nightclubs took part. These included Mike's Bar La Cage, Forest House, Ouds Cafe, Wunderbar, Eden, Euroboys, Corner Bar, Sundance, Duc's Coffee Shop, C.U. bar and the Krazy Dragon. They all entered into the spirit of things and even if it wasn't a total blackout, it showed support for the scheme. Well done to all, and let's hope next year we can see a large party based around the theme. As they say in the YouTube video that follows; "Earth Hour has shown that the issue of climate change is not about what country you're from; it's about what planet you're from"

A crumpet and three parties

The evening of the 24th was shaping up to be a busy one in Sunee. There were three parties scheduled and they were all going to be fun events. However for one person, it started in Duc's Coffee Shop. We'll skip over the cockroach - the bribe offered to the person was sufficient for us not to go into any detail. Coffee at Duc's is always good and tonight, there was an offering of a crumpet. It was delicious and heavily lathered in butter, it set the stomach up nicely for a long, gastronomic evening.

The first event on the list was the opening party for C.U. bar. It's been there less than a month and is already making a name for itself. To complement the party three new machines had been installed. A state-of-the-art darts machine, a video games machine and a football table. With pool and real darts on offer at Uniform next door, this is shaping up to be a sporty corner. The party itself was nice, with a good crowd and a tasty Croatian buffet on offer. We wish C.U. all the luck in the world and hope they thrive.

After that is was off to Mike's Bar La Cage. Mike has a name for Cheese and Wine parties and this one was one not to miss. Offering three different kinds of cheese and a carafe of red wine at a reasonable price, this was a nice place. Some good friends to talk to and a pre-run through the fun visual quiz to be used at Duc's on the 1st, this provided some good diversion to the evening. it was both gastronomic, sociable and educational.

Finally on to the pleasure of the flesh and Euroboys. They decorated the place in balloons for Art's birthday and the boy was keen to show off this fact. The money sash he had on was well filled. A nice cake provided by the boys themselves and a bottle of whiskey from a customer set the evening to a nice close. The boys in Euroboys are always keen to make you feel welcome.

Well done Sunee for a good evening as we head out of high season.

In a series of reviews over the next few months, we are going to tell you about some great dining experiences (and maybe some not so great ones). These will NOT be gay places, but notable places our contacts have been to and reported over to us. Obviously we in Amsterdam have no way of checking these reviews, so please accept them as personal opinions of the diners who went.

"HOT MAN" - 3rd ROAD

Well, this is not the name of this place, but appears on the sign above the place. The correct name is shown on the second sign!

It's a well kept and clean Thai restaurant, but does great food. It's situated on third road, on the corner of soi 25, quite close to Xzyte disco. You can't miss it. From the North, pass Xzyte on your right and it's about 200m further on the same side of the road. The speciality is fish and it's good. We had the fish in black pepper sauce and it was tangy and good. The baby clams in chili sauce had an aniseed twist to the sauce and were delicious. The duck was a little disappointing, but not bad. With rice and a drink, the bill came to 370B for two people. Do give it a try. And be adventurous - although we baulked at the fish stomach in red curry sauce!

The way they are picking it is to ask readers of this website to email in their suggestions. The ideas will be looked at by a committee and the name picked from those submitted. Graham's Birthday at Uniform Bar

I've said before some birthdays are quiet affairs, not so for Graham at Uniform Bar. The boys decked out the bar with balloons and a good crowd gathered to wish him well. There was a really yummy buffet and lots of drink drunk (or was it drunks drinking?). Anyway the boys all sported their best shirts and uniform and there was a little bit of panic as they put on the ties - only one member of staff could tie them!

The shirts had to be tucked in by hand, and this lead to a few 20B being exchanged (I have no idea what this meant but that's what they wrote - Ed). Advertised a a "Gay Romeo" party, there were a lot of Romeos there. Good night had by all and a Happy Birthday to you, Graham!

St Patrick's Day Party at La Cage

All good parties are said to paint the town red. This one painted it Green (and white and orange). Mike's Bar La Cage held its St Patrick's Day party on the 17th (when else) and there was a good crowd there. The bar was decorated out in balloons (green white and orange of course) and there was the "bottle in a balloon" game loaded up to play. They treated us to Irish music and an extended happy hour (which included Jamieson's whisky and Baileys). There was also a chance to win a free drink if you could identify the clues on three different quiz sheets.

As the advertising poster said we "enjoyed the crack"!

Cocktail Boyz to reopen

After nearly a year of being closed, we are pleased to announce that Cocktail has a new owner. A nice Thai man called Odd will be opening it as a Show Bar in the near future. The plans are underway and the name will be changed from Cocktail. however the final name has not been decided yet. The show is said to be different from existing places and will be interesting and worth seeing. We wish Odd well in this new venture

Take Care Party at Corner Bar

On 6th March, the men from Take Care, a volunteer organisation which distributes condoms around the area, held a grand fund-raising party at Corner Bar. The event was well attended, they sold 64 tickets to people at 200B each and laid on a nice evening. Unfortunately the scheduled pool tournament sis not happen, due to lack of interest and the singer wasn't of the best quality, but there was an auction, which was very popular and a lucky draw, which had a number of prizes donated by local businesses. Corner Bar donated the buffet, which was yummy and was provided by the Little Mango restaurant. They also donated the first drink to the event. All in all the event made 50,000B which will keep the project in supplies for the next three months.

The volunteers from the group all want to thank the Corner Bar for this event, and assure everyone that their work in distributing condoms and safe sex leaflets will continue to help keep Pattaya safe. To quote from their own website, "Love or Boys Safely".

March Fun Quiz at Duc's

The first of the month is setting itself up to have some good quizes at Duc's. This month saw a 6 part picture quiz. There were a variety of categories - Nobel Prize winners, Olympic posters and artists (as can be seen in this example). The teams, mainly of two, enjoyed the challenge. Each team could come along any time between 7 and 10 when it finished. They were marked when they had completed the sheets and the winner announced at 10. In the end it was Matthew and Brendan who won with a stagegring score of 51 out of 55. You can tell the tasks were not too hard! The winner got a free coupon for a DVD, and there was a nice cheese supper to temp our pallettes.

Marina Swimming Pool Opens

The party itself was a great affair! The buffet was delicious with no fewer than TWO barbecue'd pigs and a large table of extra goodies. The only comment reported back was that people were not sure banana flan went with the savoury salad? But hey! Who cared really!

The music was nice if a little loud and it ranged from Elvis and the Beatles to Thai music. We were entertained by fire throwers and dancers and all in all had a good night. The pool itself won't open tomorrow (everyone is having a lie in - not in the pool itself though!) but will be open 8.30 Sunday morning.

I can't say how good it feels to have it open at last! Enjoy!

Eric's Birthday at Wunderbar

The 25th saw a grand party at Wunderbar. They put on music and a buffet for their loyal friend, Eric. He certainly celebrated the night in style. The party was good and the music fun. There was a mixture of Thai and Western music, which had the boys dancing and the farang singing along alternately. The party spread up the soi and the mood was positively infectious!

A great time was had by all!

Valentine's Day/Chinese New Year

It was a low key affair. There were many bars who decided just to have a quiet night, but a few went all out for a party. There was however, plenty of food, from a nice buffet at Oud's to meatloaf and sweet cherries at New Queen's. The bruschetta at Memories was notable. There were too, many balloons around the place and everywhere you were greeted with a smile. Firecrackers marked the start of the Year of the Tiger and a good time was had by all who went along.

Fun Quiz at Duc's Coffee Shop

Starting this month, Duc will be holding fun, visual quizzes on the first of each month. This one was not too easy and was fun. There was a small crowd who gathered and they were treated to interesting rounds. The one that particularly caught my eye was a "guess the famous character" round. There were 10 pictures of lego people and then 10 real pictures of people. They were not in the same order and you had to pair the real person with the lego one and say who they were. Not all that easy!
Anyway there was a winner, but nobody cared who, it was just fun taking part. Here's to March!

1st Anniversary Party at Place 2 B

As unbelievable as it is, Pooh has been the owner for a year today (1st February). To mark this occasion they had a party to celebrate. The invitations were handed out, the balloons went up and the friends of the bar came along. They were treated to a great night. Pooh knows what his customers like and he gave it that night. There was a buffet of barbecue skewers - very nice, except I got one with a VERY hot chilli and didn't notice that before I wolfed it down - but it did mean I bought another drink to quench the heat! There was a lucky draw and there was a good cabaret show.

Tuk's Birthday at Up 2 U

Tuk is the main man at Up 2 U and he celebrated his birthday today (31st). It was (relatively) a quiet affair - some balloons, a nice buffet for the boys (which he cooked) some whisky and a good time with friends. Compared to last year (which was his 21st) this was quiet, but a great quiet time with your best friends is worth a great deal. And this evening was good.

Marina Hotel opens new bar

The Marina Plaza Inn has reached a milestone today in its renovation works. The new lobby bar has been completed and opened for business. Our reporter was among the first to enjoy a drink after the new bar was unveiled. There was a certain amount of "I've seen that before" as the styling was compared with "Come In". In fact David from Come In was heard to remark that a copy fee should be imposed!
But where ever the concept came from, it looks good, the staff are friendly and the drinks a good price. Pop along and enjoy a drink with them.

Uniform Bar "Pools" its assets

The boys at Uniform Bar have gone sporty on us. They have had a new Pool Table and game machine installed by Eden Electronic. This will certainly give the boys and the customers something to do when they are not too busy. Why not pop in and see if you can beats the lads? They are even contemplating a tournament or league. Australia Day at Mike's Bar La Cage

Following a well-established pattern Mike laid on a Cheese and Wine to promote Australia Day. There was plenty of Australian music (Waltzing Matilda and Rolf Harris) and at 9 pm, the bottles of wine were uncorked. A good selection of Australians were present, mainly from the hardy's collection.
To compliment the wine a selection of cheese was offered to make a wine and cheese supper. The boys worked hard keeping up with the demand from the customers and a great night was had by all.

Sam and Na's Birthday at Euroboys

Euroboys is developing the habit of having good Birthday Parties for their boys. On the 24th, it was the turn of Sam and on the 26th, Na had his. So they agreed to compromise and have a joint party on the 25th. They had no fewer than two cakes and a bottle of whisky to make it swing. There was plenty of buttercream spread (some where it shouldn't have been) and the boys all had a slice of cake. Both Sam and Na have been with Euroboys for a long time and this made the night special. Incredibly, between them, they clock up 55 years, but modesty forbids me from saying who is how old. I'll just leave you to wonder!
Well done boys and well done Euroboys for another nice night.

Sam's Birthday at La Cage

Sam, who is well known around Sunee Plaza and a friend to many, celebrated his 49th? birthday at La Cage on the 20th. Mike is well known for grand parties and this one was up there with the best! A large number of people gathered and were wishing Sam well, when three Thai boys forced their way in and started a fight. With stool crashing to the ground and shocked onlookers wondering what was happening, the fight moved out on to the soi. But do not worry readers, this was all staged, and it soon became evident that the Alangkard Theatre were in the house. After a fun exhibition of Thai boxing, we were trested to a peacock dance, part on the stage and part in the soi. A short break and a hip hop show followed. Finally for the Alangkarn, there was an artistic candle dance. Well done. After this there was a large buffet provided by the White Night and as delicious as ever. Their Laab Moo is something not to be missed.
For the second "act" we were trested to dancing by the boys from Euroboys. They performed three numbers and before they were totally exhausted gave Sam his birthday cake. After the singing of Happy Birthay, the boys came back and gave us one last teaser.

Grand New Bar Sign in Sunee Plaza

Sunee Plaza may not be as well known as Boyztown for it's bar lights, but the Krazy Dragon sign and one or two others provide it with a night "look" that is well known. There is now a new illumination to brighten our evenings. Come In bar, which for a long time has been dark and un-signed, has just unveiled it's new grand lighting scheme. This sign will shine out over the plaza and become as loved a pointer to the bar as the Dragon has. We have captured a picture before the sign was repaired and the new one for you to see the before and after. Enjoy!

Bom and First's Birthday at the Balkan Express

Two of the staff share a Birthday at the Balkan Express. Bom and first were both born on the 17th January, so the bar had a double birthday party. As soon as the normal Sunday Buffet was out the way the boys started. There was the usual money sashes and a nice Thai Buffet, plenty of balloons and a good cabaret to enjoy.
The boys were bought two bottles of whisky which their friends enjoyed with them and toasted Happy Birthday many times. Finally at midnight, the balloons were popped and a really nice Swenson's Birthday Cake was brought out to devour.
A yummy end to a good evening. Happy Birthday boys and thanks Duck for laying on a great event.

Mark's Birthday at the Krazy Dragon

Mark from the Krazy Dragon is a lucky man. With so many friends, his birthday was bound to be a great event. And so it turned out to be. The Dragon was decorated with many, many balloons and some banners proclaiming the event. There was a Roast Pig on a spit for the boys to enjoy. The lads brought presents and dressed up as you can see from the following photos. The party was going hard and everyone was having a great time, when a "dog bark" version of Happy Birthday announced a cake was coming. A yummy Swenson's Ice Cream Cake was brought out as Mark really doesn't like the buttercream version. However the ceremonial plastic knife was too flimsy to cut the frozen delight and a proper one had to be found. Even then it was hard cutting until it thawed a bit! The entertainment that followed was from the Alangkarn Theatre and the boys made a great show of hip-hop dancing and comedy boxing. Lovely night and Mark and his many friends had a great time! Thanks and well done to all who organised it.

German Night at Mike's Bar La Cage

In the latest of his parties, Mike held a German Night on the 13th. There was plenty of good music and a lot of German drink - mainly quality wine and beer. There were also two food options, a cheese plate and a sausage plate. The sausages were interesting to say the least. Our reporter was one of the first to try these (although not the actual first) and realised that when he tried to cut into the delicious meat, it was still wrapped in a plastic cover! The other purchaser had not noticed this, although he did remark that the skin was a little tough. When being told about this, Mike commented "Wurst things have happened at sea".
The night was a success and all the revelers from many countries and not just Germany, had a great time.

Tum at Euroboys, erstwhile doorboy turned host, celebrated his 22nd birthday in style at Euroboys. There was a gathering of the boys as they joined in to sing "Happy Birthday". Alas the music system couldn't give us the music to this, so we all sang unaccompanied! But the noise was bearable! The candles on the cake were blown out - several times as the boys had used the "relightable" type.
A bottle of whisky was opened to mark this day. The dance formation team put on a special dance for him and everyone had a great time.

Elvis Night at La Cage

The 8th of January 1935 was Elvis' birthday. To mark the occasion of his 75th anniversary, Mike held an Elvis party. It was a pleasant affair with a packed bar gathering to celebrate his day. There were lots of sing-a-longs and some good spirit (I think it was Bourbon) as the King of Rock was toasted. The day started with playing of "Happy Birthday" and included a chip buffet.

Guy's Birthday at the Krazy Dragon

On the 3rd, Guy celebrated his birthday yesterday at the Krazy Dragon. He took advantage of their party package (see www.krazy-dragon.com/party.html). Guy is well known in Sunee Plaza, mainly for his constant carrying of plastic bags. If you visit Sunee regularly you will have seen him around. The evening started quietly but soon the gong was heard to sound and all the boys were bought a drink. It got progressively more riotous and interesting as the time wore on. There were plenty of nibbles (no further explanation offered), and several bottles were bought to lubricate the throats. The highlights of the evening were the welcome drink - (a bottle of Perrier in an icebucket with a rather large ribbon on it), the really nice present from John (a copy of Spice magazine wrapped carefully and lovingly in kitchen paper) and of course the cake and the singing of Happy Birthday!
Plenty of boys joined in to wish him a Happy Birthday and a number of other bar owners dropped in during the evening to join the festivities. A great time was had by all and the two boys who had to carry him home at the end of the evening promised to look after him. We will see if he's back in the Plaza tonight!

New Year's Eve in Sunee Plaza

A very different night this was indeed! It started slowly. Some places were wondering if it would happen at all. The preparations had been made, the balloons were up, the staff scrubbed up and dressed in their finery (some finer than others). But the people weren't there. Then slowly they started to drift in. More and more came until by midnight the soi was heaving with people! And what could they expect? The range of entertainment was extraordinary. From Karaoke and live music at one end to Belgian food and parties at the other, and in the middle - everything to make a great night. Plenty of buffets and roast pigs, plenty of entertainment, but also those quiet corners for people who wanted to chat. And at midnight, fireworks by the bucketful. Not only from Bali Hi and around the town, but also right in the Plaza itself. Plenty of sparkling wine to toast in the New Year and suddenly a whole decade is sddenly behind us.

Boxing Day at La Cage

For a very different Boxing Day, Mike tried an "open mic" evening. It started with a competition to tell jokes. And yes, they were awful. Two of the best (and these WERE the best!) were: "A sandwich walks into a pub and the landlord says 'sorry Sir, we don't serve food'". This was only slightly better than "Did you hear about the man who loved two schoolbags; he was bi-satchel". Oh well, keep taking the tablets. This was followed by a nice Karaoke, lead by the gorgeous Toon. Turkey and Cranberry sandwiches kept us going and Mike's hospitality and repartee made this a really nice evening. A great end to Christmas.

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through Sunee Plaza there were elves and festivities going on. The amount of red hats was threatening the local felt supplier (or at least there were comments about something being felt) ... The spirits were high, and plenty of them were being drunk. One old man was going around giving every boy sweeties (what have we told you about taking sweets from strangers.) The elves themselves were having a gay old time. The Elf and Safety department were a little concerned at some of the goings on, not least when Santa's reindeer were replaced at one point by an elephant. However the National Elf Service cleaned up after this and Santa was able to get on his way again. The old man visited several of the bars and decided if the boys had been good or bad (all had been bad, but he left them presents anyway.)
It was a great night and a lot of fun and from all the elfs at Sunee Plaza, we wish you a Happy Christmas and good elf in 2010.

Wunderbar celebrated the birthdays of two of their boys on the 22nd. Ao and Are all but share a birthday and they had a party to celebrate. And what a party it was! It started with live music with some good singing of both Thai and Western songs. The Thai songs got the crowd up and dancing and everyone had a good time. There was a nice buffet and the boys were given a whole range of presents to celebrate their day. It was a nice night and everyone had a good time. Cheese and Wine at Mike's Bar La Cage

On 21st, as part of his "season of festive parties", Mike held a Cheese and wine at La Cage. The selection of wines was impressive, mainly featuring a new range of Australian wines, but there were some German whites and a really nice Pays D'Oc Cabernet Sauvignon (my personal favourite). You could sample some you fancied and settle on a favourite. Then you bought a glass and got a cheese supper included. There was a strong cheese from Lincolnshire, which was new to me, some Edam and a really tasty cheddar. All in all it made a nice tasty supper and there was plenty of company to make a great evening from it. A really good crowd gathered to enjoy the evening and all in all it was a good success!

2nd anniversary party at Uniform Bar

To celebrate the second anniversary of the bar, and the finishing of the renovations (and the new uniforms), Graham and Tim held a grand party on the 19th. There was a lovely buffet of traditional English food - Chicken Pate tarts, Pork Pies, Sausage Rolls and BRANSTON PICKLE! With muffins and mince pies to follow, this was a treat not to be missed.
Many friends of the bar gathered to wish them well and a nice atmosphere ensued. The bell was rung a good few times and the party went on late into the night. The new uniforms look good and the boys look even more sexy (if that is possible)! Pop in and see them some time.

I received this from a bar recently who asked to be nameless. They said they have had a poll recently around the bar boys, about the most hated types of Farang in the place, and this is the list they sent.
"In 5th place, there are the self-denialists. The ones who declare that this boy loves them and will do so for ever. "Even though we only met last night this one is different". To them we dedicate a month's supply of paper handkerchiefs for everytime their hearts are broken.
